Alison & Wander

I’m Alison Kieffer – or Homestretch, as I’m known on trail – and I want to welcome you to my hiking and outdoor adventure travel blog!

I love outdoor adventures with my black Labrador Retriever, Wander! I live in Maine and adventure in various places throughout the state, the United States and internationally. I hike as much as possible and love to travel to hike and visit National Parks. I’m a Registered Maine recreation guide and Wilderness First Responder.

I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2014 and section hiked the Long Trail, finishing in 2020. I have hiked the New England 67 4,000 footers and I’m currently hiking the same mountains in the winter. Wander has hiked the New Hampshire 48 4,000 footers and many of the Maine and Vermont 4,000 footers. Both of us are currently hiking the Adirondack 46 4,000 footer list as part of the Northeast 111 list. I love visiting the US National Parks and hope to visit and hike in each one. I’m also aiming to hike the highpoints in all 50 states.

While I love traveling and hiking in the United States, I also love international travel, especially when it includes hiking or outdoor adventure. I have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and Mount Olympus in Greece. Most of my international travel has been solo and I encourage that type of travel for everyone, at least once!

I hope to inspire you to get outside as much as possible and adventure solo or with your dog. I’m always adding new adventures and experiences to my bucket list and then writing and photographing those exploration. I look forward to exploring with you – join me on my adventures!
